I have 80 machines running Windows XP Pro.
All are stand alone machines at different locations.
I want to be able to secure the pc from surfing the web,
that is, allow only the sites that I want a user to be
able to visit. Norton Internet Security 2004 Pro will
give me the security, but using XP Pro and NIS 2004 Pro,
only an administrator can get the Virus Update, not the
user. My machine is then secure, but vulnerable to
viruses because the definitions are not up to date.
Is there a low-cost, easy solution to allowing virus
updates and windows updates to an XP Pro machine without
having to have an administrator come over and log on just
to get updates?
I want:
Selected sites for the user account.
Ability for user to update Windows with Critical Updates.
Ability for user to download current virus definitions
with any Virus Software.
Am I in a Catch-22 situation? Can I get there from here?
Content advisor does not seem to work. Admin password
needed every time, even though it was set up to always
allow site.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
