ActiveX plugin help

Hey i've recently had some attacks with various ads and
searchbars and stuff. I got ad aware and SpyBot S&D and i
think i've been gettin rid of the harmful files. i've got
control of my browser again.. anyway so now when i start
explorer it prompts me to install Active X plugins...
should i do this or is it still something wanting to
infect me
