I have the same problem, I downloaded a spyware program
to remove parasites, as my homepage was kidnapped. Once
the home page was kidnapped, it will not allow me to
search through the Explorer program. I would have to go
through the control panel to internet options, click open
and delete the defaulted browser. I then clicked on the
home page to blank, which then frees up access to browse
the web to get to MICROSOFT to begin to find out what is
going on. SPYBOT reported that several registry files in
the H key had entries that were done when I got to a
replaced browser thta imbeded into the registry. I have
manually deleted these (be careful if you try this, as if
you delete the wrong one, you will have to work the
system restore to try to go back to what your registry
had in entry prior to deletion, and this is another whole
new issue), but with no success, as the registry re-
appears. I am struggling to find out if permissions are
needed to remove these registry entries, and how to apply
that.

I am working from the Mocrosoft Windows XP Inside Out
book for my guide, and there is a lot of good info there.
I wish I would have had this book when I first started
with XP. lesson learned, buy the program guides when a
new system is installed so these issues do not occur.

If anyone can provide guidance on why I can't remove the
registry entries, i would appreciate a better
understanding. I know there is another book called
Troubleshooting Windows XP, and I hope to find some
answers there to get this issue solved.
