XP Pro Workgroup Permissions over LAN

Hola,

Trying to share a database (Access) across a simple peer-to-peer network
using XP Pro.

I have seven computers in the workgroup. Two of the computers need to have
exclusive access to the database file. The first computer stores the
database locally. The second computer gains access via the network.

How can I secure access to the folder/file so that only the two intended
PC's see it? Simple Filing Sharing let's all of the users see the
folder/file. I could minimize the risk of accidental damage by ensuring the
share is "read only". Unfortunately, when I do that, the program (installed
locally on both computers) is unable to link with the main database file
across the network and function. In order to make the system work, I have
to set the folder to "Full Access".

NTFS permissions seem only to work on the local system unless you're in a
domain. I'm unable to give access to remote users.

For all of it's faults, at least I could assign a password to shares on a
Win98 machine. Have I overlooked something? Is there a similar setting on
XP Pro that I've missed?

Thanks for your thoughts....
