I'd be willing to bet that Microsoft would view
securing your hotmail account as your responsibility.
What should you do? Tighten security - maybe what
happened will give you a heads up, and by acting now you
can prevent larger problems down the road. Following are
some security suggestions:
Choose hard to guess passwords.
Don't write down your password where it can be found.
Install a firewall (ZoneAlarm has one free)
Check for, and install all Critical Updates to plug
operating system vulnerabilities.
Set security to the highest level that allows you to get
done what you need/want to get done.
Install and maintain antivirus software (scan and update
the virus definitions frequently).
Install an antispyware program like Adaware (scan, and
update it frequently)
Avoid services like Kazaa, which often have infected
files.
Learn about security risks.

Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the
States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the
nine-millimeter bullet. (Dave Barry)
