I've been doing this for almost 30 years and at first thought it was a
losing battle but as time went on I saw I was Gaining Ground.
I trace out all the Spams I get and have their ISP Accounts killed and I
also Trace out the Web Pages and Reply Addresses in the Body of the Spams as
well.
I even Complain to the Product Manufacture if Possible !!!!
They get tired after awhile of having their Web Hosts killing their Accounts
along with their ISP's and having to make new ones.
Doing this I only get a few Spams on each Email Account now and I used to
get over 100 a day on 30 Addresses !!!!
(Some Accounts I have for years without use so I know no Spam comes in on
them and use them to catch Domains that Spam)
Be careful of who you are reporting to though I have caught Domains involved
in Spamming too so check them out before sending your Complaint to Abuse.
And if you find the ISP and Websites are protected by the ISP and Web Host,
do a Trace Route and complaint to Upstream Providers.
The Upstream Providers may Block Mail or Network Access through their
Network if they get many repeated Complaints.
Those Hosts don't want Upstream Providers Blocking Access from their Systems
when they see you start doing that and will act on the Spammer.
You should make several Email Accounts to protect yourself.
First make one that is a Trash Account such as Trash@hotmail .com and make
it your Default Address in Outlook Express.
This will be the Address a Website would Steal from you when you visit them
or if they get through your Firewall somehow.
Then set that Account to send EVERYTHING to the Trash Can or Bulk Mail
Folder where it is Deleted right away or after 1 or 2 days.
Second make another Account that you would give to Websites that force you
to give a Email Address for Access to their Websites and like the first have
all mail go to the Bulk Mail Folder and set it to kill Email after 2 or 3
days from the Bulk Mail Folder.
Third make a few to use for Newsgroups, people you play games or Chat with
and so on.
This will keep your ISP Email Address clear of Junk except for notices from
your ISP, Family and close Friends.
Spammers Troll Newsgroups and Websites for Email Addresses to Spam with
Programs that are made to search the Web for them.
Think before you give out a Email Address and decide how public it will
become when you use it.
So making a Email Address for each use you will know where your Spam came
from and can do something about it.
I have more suggestions but this is getting long and I think you get the
Idea.
Hope that helps
