Today, I sent the following message to MS Cust Svc:
To Microsoft Customer Service:
On 11/12/03 I applied critical security update
KB824145 to my Internet Explorer (subsequent
version 6.0.2800.1106) and was appalled to find
that it changed the functionality of the CUA
(Common User Access) definition of the
functionality of the scroll-bars.
At first I thought I needed another reboot to
clear some error. When that didn't work, I
removed and reinstalled the driver for the mouse.
When that didn't work, I replaced the mouse.
When that didn't work, I installed the same
update on my wife's machine and found that the
same error appeared.
Prior to the update, clicking at the bottom of
the scroll-bar area just above the down-arrow
causes a simple "Page-Down". After the update,
the same action causes the scroll-bar to move
to the clicked area!!!
If you are trying to read say a 20-page document
from the top, page by page, you now must change
your access action to one of two others:
1) revert to the keyboard PgDn key or,
2) move the mouse pointer to be just under the
scroll-bar before clicking and, this latter 2)
method is inconsistent and troublesome to perform.
Of course, for scrolling up, the same problem
occurs with placing the cursor just under the
up-arrow on the scroll-bar.
I suppose, if you don't have a correction for this,
that I'll deinstall the update as the resultant
troubles are too inconvenient to be troubled with.
In any event, your action in 'sneaking' in such a
fundamental change under the guise of a
"Critical Security Update" is very reprehensible.
Sincerely, (Justification)
