I actually changed it to jet.cmd and the next thing I knew, AVAST
detected that jet.cmd had been infected with yet another virus (worm)
    while it was still running!

Swen has repeated placed over 25,000 weird links into my favorites which
I have deleted many many times and every time, they come back. It has
disabled my email and my printer.

And it has infected all my dbx files, some of my docs and many programs.
I've tried all the fix tools listed here, in addition to manually
following pc-cillin's instructions. I have remembered to show all files
and to disable system restore, as instructed.

The root of hte problem appears to reside in documents and settings/my
    name/local settings/temp/temporary internet files.

almost nothing in there can be deleted without getting messages saying
it is in use (and I have used task manager to shut everything down -- in
addiction to running the removal tools on safe mode and even in dos).
dat.index is one that's particularly giving me problems.

Anyway, I am out of work and unfortunately all my contact information is
in the infected computer as well as many freelance projects, so I am
going to back-up my data onto hard disks. Is there any danger to my
other computer if I just read them? Is there a way of printing them out
with my clean computer that won't actually open them (it would be
thousands of pages, but what else can I do?

Thanks in advance for your help!
