OK...I created the file and it executed and updated the registry with the
new key. I restarted the computer to be sure it took. However, I still get
the same results...MS Update still wants me to install the patch. To be sure
we are talking about the same thig I have attached below the update text
from the MS Update website:

    Security Update, February 13, 2002 (MSXML 4.0)
Download size: 4.5 MB, 22 minutes
This update resolves the "XMLHTTP Control Can Allow Access to Local
Files" security vulnerability in Microsoft XML (MSXML) 4.0 and is discussed
in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-008. Download now to help
prevent a malicious user from reading the files on your computer when you
visit a specially malformed Web site. Read more...

And from the installation history to show that the update was installed:

Successful Friday, October 10, 2003 Security Update, February 13, 2002
(MSXML 4.0)

I'm appreciative of the help so far...with any luck I can get this irritant
beat into submission.

thanks
