I've had absolutely no problems with kb824146. I'd suggest that
if you're going to flatten your box as you say that you download
all the hotfixes (822831,823559,823980,824105,824146) first.

Disconnect from the Internet, flatten the box, install W2K, apply
SP4, then the above hotfixes in that order, stick with AVG and
dump NAV, and install KERIO personal firewall all before ever
connecting to the Internet. And if you have broadband, be sure
you're behind a good SPI hardware firewall as well.

I'd also suggest acquiring IE6 SP1 on CD since unfortunately it
doesn't exist in a readily downloadable format and q828750 and
applying these before ever connecting to the Internet.

Then image your hard drive before loading all your other software
so you won't have to do it all over again.

Intuitively obvious to the most casual observer.
