They might not be able to fix your problem, especially if it was caused by a
pre-existing problem that was already on your computer. But MS support is
way better than most other phone support I've ever talked to.
You don't *have* to call them. But I don't see why you'd be mad that you
can call them for free. No other company does that. You should only call
them if you think it might save you time and hassle. It's an *option.*

I can appreciate that this is frustrating, I've had problems like this too.
But this happens to all of us, no matter what OS or software you're running.
Switching to Linux won't prevent you from having support headaches, and
there's no free phone support there.

I'm afraid that evidence probably doesn't mean very much. Whenever a new
patch is released, there are always people that claim that it causes
problems. I did a Usenet search and didn't find very much about this patch.
You and I as the customers demaned Microsoft release this patch be released
as soon as it was, and we probably had something to do with this patch being
labeled Critical instead of Moderate and put on their home page, because we
complain when they release a patch, and we complain when they don't release
a patch. We complain when the patch takes too long, and we complain when
they didn't spend more time testing it.

If that's the problem, I'm hoping that re-installing Windows won't be
necessary and that someone will be able to help you.
