Any spyware/adware blockers??

I use Ad-aware and Spybot to identify and remove spyware
and adware programmes. Its a tedious process. Is there
any prgramme out there which blocks ad/spywares from
entering my system in the first place. Can firewalls like
ZoneAlarm block those? Thanks
