Any Good Intrusion detection Software?

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions. It is
obvious that 'Snort' is THE IDS to use. However, after
visiting the suggested help sites on installing this
tool, I find this process to be a daunting task. Is there
any simplified way of doing this?
