No one program will handle everything. Morpheus is correct there.
Run several things in conjunction - firewall, spy/adware cleaners, etc and
you will be happier. Hell, the firewall alone could have likely prevented
the worms spread for you and not opening attachments in email might have
accounted for some of the others. Make sure you have your auto-updates for
Windows turned on to at least NOTIFY you and install them when you see them.
Not only that, visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com often, just to be sure.
It takes effort on your part as well as all the nice automations. The
hackers/crackers/virus & trojan writers are not going to stop because you
installed a system that automatically updates for todays problems.
Symantec (NAVE) does update more often if needed, try setting your NAV to
auto-update daily after 11:45AM CST and see if that helps matters. It has
not missed any viruses/trojans for me in a university environment in a lab
of over 1200+ computers used by 40,000+ students in several years.
The point?
It takes more than an antivirus software to keep from being infected with
viruses/trojans/etc these days. You have to be a bit intelligent about it,
keep updated (not only software, but mentally as well), don't open crap,
check for adware/spyware periodically, etc.
