"But why are they sent?" Well, your "friends" sent them so you should have a
better idea than any of us. If one of my "friends" sent me such rubbish I'd
assume that (s)he wasn't terribly bright or had suffered some sudden brain
damage, and quite possibly wasn't really a friend after all. Probaby the
best way to find out why they were sent would be to query your friends.
While you're at it, ask them how much money THEY made sending the email. I'm
sure they'll be glad to take you out for dinner and drinks with the $146
they got by sending the message to you...
