Maybe the patch says that because there are other security concerns that are
a major problem pre-SP 2?

I don't know why it doesn't work/isn't made for pre-SP 2 machines. Sorry.

Some of my machines don't have CD readers as well, and you are correct, I
also use NetBIOS to get the files there. And no, not everyone has broadband
or the 10 extra dollars, but people start the download before they go to
sleep then reboot before they, let's say, take their morning shower. Or
start the download before they go out for dinner, etc.
