Microsoft offers free phone support for problems caused by patches. You
should consider it. www.microsoft.com/support has phone numbers. I've used
it and consider it better than most any other computer support group I've
had to call. Free informal support is also available here, where you
posted.

Which SP1 are you talking about? Windows 200 SP1 has been out for a long
time and should be very stable by now. In some cases it may be advisable to
wait up to 6 months or more before installing a new service pack or patch,
depending on the urgency, but by that point, any issues should be known and
resolved. At some point, you have to bite the bullet and install the patch
to get secure.

A lot of times, problems that occur after a patch was installed is due to a
pre-existing problem on that computer that would have become evident sooner
or later. The last person or thing to touch the computer before it blows up
tends to get the blame, sometimes wrongly so.
