mel asks a question to do with PCs, Super_Geek dives in and tries to
help:

Are both the laptop and the PC windows XP?
When you say the laptop 'does not have permission' are you referring to
the message you get when you open up the WLAN shortcut or the shortcut
to the remote PC?
If the latter, then there is probably no shares on the PC. Put some on.
(Right click a folder in explorer view, then click Sharing and Security.
From there press New Share.)
If you get a pop-up aksing for login information, login using the PC's
account. If the PC's account does not have a password, (ie, is blank
password,) you will not be allowed to connect. A simple work around is
to create a user with a name like 'remote' on the PC, with user
privileges and a password like 'password'. Then deny the account the
right to log on locally, and you have yourself a custom remote user.
This user's details can then be saved in the laptop's password list when
the dialogue pops-up.
However, if you are storing private files on shares (which is sort of
silly really,) then you may want to change the password from an easy to
remember one to something more complex.
I have tried to answer all possibilities here, but a bit more detail
would allow a more specific answer.
But I hope the one I've given does the trick. :)
PS: What hardware are you using to connect? Is the company that made the
laptop's WLAN card different from the PC's?
