David,

Have a look at these links:

AutoDial Does Not Remember Password or Connect Automatically

Also, have a look at the following information. ALWAYS back up your
registry before making any changes.

For information about working in the registry, see the following:

How to Back Up the Registry in Windows 98 [Q256419]
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q256419

Verify that password caching is enabled. To do so, use Registry Editor to
view the DisablePwdCaching DWORD value in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Network

If password caching is disabled, the DisablePwdCaching DWORD value has a
value data of 1. To enable password caching, change the value data to 0.

NOTE: If the DisablePwdCaching value does not exist, add this DWORD value
with a data value of 0 to the registry key listed above.

Note that you may need to remove this value altogether, and then restart
your computer to make caching work.

Also note that if you cancel out of the classic Windows log on, you won't be
able to save password. Have a look here for advice on how to get rid of the
log on.
