MSN Messenger Popups

I receive approx 8-10 unwanted popups from Microsoft
Messenger every day. Is there any way to eliminate these
obnoxious popups? When they pop up you have to delete
them before you can carry on with your work. MSN
messenger came loaded on my machine when I purchased it.
I do not use it for messages, Email or anything else. Is
the answer to just remove the whole program or would that
create other problems? I am totally frustrated with
these popups. Thanks for anyones's help.
