This could be a combination of two settings the Security settings in IIS and
IE.

IIS: If your users have domain credentials and you have a domain member
server running your IIS server, do the following:
    1) open the IIS snapin (mmc.exe -- select snapin)
    2) expand the "Web Sites" tree view
    3) Rclick on the desired site or virtual site and select: Properties
    4) Click the "Directory Security" Tab
    5) Click button: "Edit" in group windows: "Authentication and access
control"
At this point you have a few options, if you want to allow only
authenticated user then uncheck all boxes
    6) Check box: "Integrated Windows authentication"
    7) Click: OK

IE: For intranet sites you can automatically send the users logged on
credentials to the server automatically, do the following:
    1) open IE
    2) click: Tools --> Internet Options
    3) click: The "Security" Tab
    4) Highlight the "Local Intranet" zone
    5) Click: button "Custom Level...."
    6) Scroll to the bottom of the Settings list to "User
Authentication" --> "Logon"
    7) Set the Logon: Automatic logon with current username and password
