There is no single correct advice, and I agree completely about the turning
off of features in order to achieve higher security. It all leads to
eventually just getting off the net altogether.
The advice in question was just the simplest well known ways to
protect your browser from script kiddies and advertising hacks.
Better advice I think would be to get "OffByOne" browser, and use
it exclusively when you go to warez and porn sites,
then you can leave your IE alone (except to update & limit activeX)
and you'll have eliminated 90% of the risk right there.
I fix a lot of peoples computers, and it's no surprise to find porn sites
in recent history for little old ladies and church types.
