I don't know, if this has anything to do with microsoft
security, but I found it to be the most obvious place to
inform to my problem.
In august 2002, I purchased a sony laptop, it contained a
German version of windows XP, which I had no problem
with, to begin with.
Once I started school, and connected it with the
university's lan, I downloaded english versions of
various microsoft original programs, s.a. internet
explorer, winamp, etc.
By december I noticed, with out a doubt, that something
seemed to be "eating" my c-drive. I thought of two
options, someone'd hacked into my laptop or I had some
version of a virus.
First ruling out my laptop'd been hacked, I kept it home,
away from the school's network range, that didn't seem to
work, I kept seeing the hard-drive loosing mgb every day,
with out even touching the laptop(I even noticed
diffrence in my mgb storage when I turned it on!)
Obviously it had to be a virus, I mean, WINDOWS doesn't
fail, right?
So I purchased a 2003 version of Norton Anti-virus, and
used it to scan my laptop, with out it finding anything
(note, I DID update the anti-virus program)
But only after formatin my laptop and purchasing another
version of windows, everything seems to be running as it
should be
Sincerely
