I'm having some of the same trouble, had a 3rd party tool that
installed a named instance of MSDE.
When I ran setup from the gui, it just quit complaining about strong
security, then it just created a new default instance w/ the SP3
versioning, but left the original unchanged. Anyone know the proper
command-line syntax for upgrading the named instance to SP3, as well
removing the new instance that was just created?
Are the setup.exe command line parameters available on the web? The
readme file described a section of the SQL Online Books that didn't
appear to exist.
