What OS are you both running? If XP, I made a post describing a possible
solution concerning a different update but the steps may still apply. Here
is what I posted:

There have been many posts concerning this update continuing to prompt users
to install it even after they have already done so. The following may be
helpful to you if you are seeing this issue:

If you are running Windows XP, it could be that your catalog has become
corrupt. Here is a possible work around that has worked for some people:

> Go to C:\Windows\system32\catroot2 and rename the file edb.log to edb.gol
> Go to Windows Update and perform a scan. You should be alerted for this
update
> Let Windows Update install the update

If after doing this, you still get a Windows Update prompt that you need to
install this update, go back to Windows Update and scan again. If Windows
Update does not show the update under "critical updates" then do the
following:

> Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
> Double click the System icon
> Go to the Automatic Updates tab
> Uncheck "Keep my computer up to date"
> Click Apply
> Recheck "Keep my computer up to date"
> Click Apply

This should reset Auto Update.
