You are right to be suspicious. Don't trust things like this.
If someone suggests you have a virus, use anti-virus software
with up-to-date virus definition files to determine whether you
are or are not infected.
If the anti-virus software reports that you have a virus, go to
your AV software vendors' web site and read what to do to
remove the virus and do it.
Good anti-virus software is available free for personal use from
http://www.grisoft.com.
I would not go anywhere near a website that suggests it is going
to update or patch your browser, other than the web site of your
browser manufacturer.
