Hi Carey,

There's not quite enough info here to give you a complete
answer, since i'm not sure what equipment you might
already have in the environment.

However, if you're starting from scratch, i'd recommend
that you use Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS) on the
server side, and Windows XP Professional clients on the
client side. SBS is made for exactly this purpose, and
provides a Windows "domain" environment, which lets you
create one account for each user, which can then be used
to control their access to any resources on the network --
including to the desktop machines. SBS also contains other
useful things you'll need in your network, including email
server, and Microsoft Internet Security and Aceleration
Server (ISA), which is an effective internet firewall. SBS
is very easy to setup and heavily wizard driven. I'd
recommend taking a look at the SBS website for some more
info: http://www.microsoft.com/sbserver

Also, you want Windows XP Professional on the desktops,
and not Home Edition, because among other things,
Professional supports the network "domain" environment.

Hope this helps.

good luck,
-jasong
