I'd stick with the NET STOP MESSENGER idea - who knows if the APIs are going
to be consistent across platforms or not. IMO the bigger problem for naive
users is going to be disabling the messenger service so it stops firing up
at every reboot. Maybe a START SERVICES.MSC command (and instructions on
what to do with it!) right afterwards?
