Modem Launch on start-up & Shut-down

John,

I am experiencing a similar problem - unknown which
updates are applied - here is the scenario as posted -

I have recently downloaded updates to windows 98 and
office 2000, and had also added Yahoo instant messenger
and MSN instant messenger (Instant messaging services are
now removed), and now when my internet browser (Internet
explorer 6.0.2660) / Modem is automatically dialing into
my provider if my automatically connect to internet box is
checked in Internet Explorer. This should only occur if I
launch the application, and I do not believe any settings
are selected to auto connect to the Internet if there is
no connection.

I only want to dial the Internet when I want to, not all
the time - Best security against attack is no connection.

Any ideas?
