Word starts, then shuts down...

What can I do? Whenever I try to open a Word document,
it opens OK, for a few seconds, then Word closes, and Word
is then impossible to re-open.

I've uninstalled Office and re-installed, but to no
avail...

I guess that this is some kind of Virus - but which one?
.... and more importantly, ..what's the fix?
