I have a two computer network, with a cat5 crossover
cable. One PC runs Windows 98 and the other Windows ME.
I turned on file and print sharing, shared folders, and
enabled remote administration on the 98 PC. All was
well. From the Millenium computer, I could browse the
files in the shared folders, and, after entering the
remote admin password, I could access the C$ share.
However, when I set up sharing on the WinME computer, it
was a totally different story. The C$ share was ALWAYS
accessible from the 98 box. I shared a single folder and
even with remote administration turned OFF, the entire
hard drive was still accessible from the 98 PC by
connecting to \\windowsmepc\C$.
I eventually plugged this hole, but at the cost of totally
disabling file sharing on the WinME computer.
Does anyone know if Microsoft is aware of this problem?
Is there a patch available?
Thanks
