We had similar problems with the february IE cumulative update. It turned
out that microsoft had disabled a function with that update due to security
concerns so that a microsoft active-x control that drew tables no longer
worked. In our case the short term fix was to copy an older version of the
file mshtml.dll from a non-patched working workstation to the
system32\dllcache and then the system32\ folders [closing IE or rebooting
was necessary first, and in one case I had to copy the file in safe mode].
this however re-introduces several security issues to your workstation and
also causes problems the next time you want to install the next IE
cumulative update.
The permanent fix was to call Microsoft tech support. Tell them that per
their website, support is free if the problem was caused by a microsoft
patch. install the patch on a second workstation if you wish to confirm
that the patch is indeed the problem, and also try copying over the
mshtml.dll file to confirm whether that is the piece of code that is causing
the problem. If that isn't the problem, you may want to extract the patch
to a folder without installing it to see what files are in the patch, and
try copying over one file at a time starting with .DLLs to a working
unpatched workstation until you discover which file or files cause the
problem. drag and drop the patch setup .exe file to an open command prompt
and add /? to the end of the command that appears to see the proper switch
option to run to extract the files. Then, do the same thing again and add
the proper switch option.
In our case the permanent fix from microsoft [as it was explained to me] was
that we no longer were able to code table headers using the active-x
control, we had to code them first in HTML instead.
