Found the file, did what you said and all is good now!

Do i now need to do anything preventative so that it doesn't happen again?
Was it a virus that wasn't detected?

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

Do you have a file there called; hosts ?

If yes, please delete the 'hosts' file and enter the following commands in a command
prompt...

ipconfig /flushdns

ping google.com


what are the results now for the ping to google.com ?
