Re: Calling on a Guru to explain if I'm mistaken!

Well - I'm so sorry Mr Slartybartfast. Do you know, the link you so kindly
provided took me right back to the place where I started my enquiries more
than 18 months ago! At that time I actually used my real email address until
I was advised not to do so. My take is that the posters there (and here) are
highly vulnerable and easy prey for some.

If you are going to criticise me, please make sure you are 100% correct
yourself.
You said ...... "Now will you please call of the assault". I belive you
meant 'call *off'* .......... '

How's this for a suitable recommendation?

Your approach is, if nothing else, quite novel! <g>

A question. If you get a virus or similar on a partitioned hard disk (to
give you, say, a C: and a D: drive) if you wipe C: and re-install windows
there, are you sure that any malware on D: cannot re-emerge and infect the
C: drive once again (perhaps without your knowledge)?

Similarly, if you take a 'snapshot' of your PC, with Norton Ghost for
example, would not any virus/malware be captured too? (and then
re-introduced)

Always wondering! <g>

David

You do not get my IP address because I do not use an email client to post
in
the newsgroup, I post through my web browser.

If you enter that IP address into a google search, you would see from the
results it is the IP address of the Microsoft Public Newsgroups.

Enlighten yourself. Follow this link to the Microsoft Public Forums, then
you too will not show your IP address when you post through your web
browser.
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.security.virus&cat=en_US_c9f48b85-5bde-4e6f-b9f4-c199b934c707&lang=en&cr=US

You are now aware of dynamic IP addresses. You are aware that the IP is
changed when posting through a web browser. Now will you please call of
the
assault. I do not believe anyone appreciates your suspicious accusations.

In reply to your original post regarding http://www.nanoscan.com/, I would
never use any online virus scanner unless it was first recommended to me
by
many well known and trusted software review sites. In fact, I would never
use any antivirus at all, I view antivirus software as more of a hassle
than
they are worth. If I get a virus I will delete my hard drive and
reinstall
windows. I do not care if a hacker steals my information, I have nothing
of
value to steal.

The End.
