Thanks for all your replies.
There used to be a time when all you needed to do a virus scan was to copy
F-Prot and the two updated signature files onto a couple of floppy disks
(before spyware was a threat). Now life has become more complicated. I was
looking for a way in which all the required files required for a virus scan
and a spyware scan could be copied onto and run from a CD in Safe Mode.
A variation on that theme would be to have a hard disk installed with
Windows and NIS from which to run a scan. However, other than a possible
licensing problem, this would require installing / uninstalling the hard
disk drive on my own computer to do regular updates and, when necessary, to
temporarily install the hard disk drive on the Client's computer.
I was hoping to avoid having to drag a problem computer back to base but
doing that and temporarily transferring the hard disk drive to my computer
to do a scan does now seem to be the better option.
Regards.
