| If this friend of yours is kind of a novice user (or even an advanced
| user, for that matter), than it may be better to put him/her on
| Firefox and Thunderbird should you get to reinstalling stuff (or
| should you manage to fix this). It'll help keep the nasties off his
| PC (no ActiveX junk and fewer security vulneribilities, Gecko HTML
| rendering engine for Thunderbird, etc.) Also, both these programs
| are highly customizable.
|
| Cheers and good luck,

Hi Will, I'll consider this but I'm afraid this user only understands
IE6. Any change would only cause a great deal of frustration to the
user and myself and not worth it in the long run that why IE7 hasn't
been installed. Although the user has been using a computer for many
years, his capabilities are only browse the web for definite sites in
the favorites and check email and play card games and an occasional
google. Need to establish if the problem is
software/hardware/connection to the internet. The computer was
purchased around October 2006 I think. Kaylene
I understand that. However, his favorites can be imported into FF if
he's willing to give it a shot. As for navigation of the Net, FF is more
or less the same as IE6 appearance-wise, IMO, and you could even confiure
it so that it will never use tabs if you like to make it easier for him.
Anyway, I guess the best way to get him to use it would be to explain the
benefits (you not having to fix his PC so often) of him learning and
using this software instead.
With Thunderbird, however, if it's one Windows account, and many users,
than he may want to stick with OE, as with Thunderbird (unless you create
a Master Password to type in every time) his stored PWs can be easily
accessed from the same Windows account.
Anyway, once again, good luck with the PC repair, and happy new year.
Regards,
Will
