My drive is a Fujitsu.

A quick Google for "Fujitsu drive diagnostic" would have brought you
to here:

I had already been to the Seagate seatools site and cannot
understand/make
it work. It calls for a 1.44 floppy disk and I don't have a floppy
disk drive on any of my computers.

No, you can download the .iso for a bootable CD.

I read the instructions on the Fujitsu
site and it says that it will only run under DOS and calls for a dos
boot disk
(like Windows 98) which I don't have. Like I said, I can't understand
any of it, so I guess my next stop is my computer shop in town and pay
them a
fortune to tell me whether or not my hard drive is bad. I checked the
hard
drive on HP/Compaq site and the test came back fine. Why is their
test not considered adequate?

You cannot adequately test a hard drive from within Windows. But I do
think that taking the machine to a professional computer repair shop is
the right decision for you. We don't even know exactly what is wrong
with your machine; we've been going on information you've provided and
you don't know what you're looking at. I am not saying this to hurt
your feelings in any way; I'm just being practical.

It should not cost a fortune; ask friends and colleagues for the name of
someone reputable. This will not be your local version of BigStoreUSA.
In any case, computers are complicated machines and there is no shame
in admitting that this isn't your cup of tea. I wouldn't dream of
trying to fix my car myself and this is no different.
