Re: Java Version 5 Update 9 Problem???

Java came installed on my computer and I read on here that if you had an
earlier version than update 9 you needed to update, which is what I did. I
have since uninstalled it. Thanks for your help.

Hello Phyllis,

Another question, what is Java used for anyway? Does a person really
need it?

Learn a lesson, before you install a unknon program, do a search with
Google.

Run CHKDSK /R

Read Review at MajorGeeks

http://download.betanews.com/download/1131569373-2/Dial-a-fix-full.exe
Do a scan with all the check marks on.
Please take some time and read Windows Internals, Troubleshooting, and

Good luck

Following the advice I read about here on this newsgroup last night I
updated my Java on my laptop to the latest update (9) and then this
morning
was
doing my monthly cleanup. Adware, Virus Scan, Spybot, CCleaner, ChkDsk,
and Defrag. Anyway, during the checkdisk it got hung up and kept
starting
over and wouldn't go ahead and boot XP. At one of the restarts of
checkdisk, I hit escape, and it starting scrolling very fast something
about
not enough space to do something with a bad sector, it wouldn't stop, so
I
just turned it off at power button. When I turned it back on it started
the
checkdisk again. I stopped it and turned it off again. I restarted in
safe
mode, it went as far as the black screen with all the lines of text and
hung. I finally got it restarted in safe mode and clicked on restart
with
last good configuration. It booted without a problem. Needless to say,
I
never did try to defrag. My question is could it have something to do
with
the Java? That is the only thing that has changed on the computer, I
ended
up uninstalling it entirely. Another question, what is Java used for
anyway? Does a person really need it?

I hope it is not my hard drive going belly up. I have only had this
laptop
about 8 months. Compaq Presario, Windows XP SP2, AMD Turion 64, AVG
anti-virus, Zone Alarms Firewall. I have a wireless router. I apologize
for the lengthy/wordy message. Any suggestions as to what the problem
might
be?
