since you've already ruled out pretty much all software based problems (and therefore all viruses and other malware) by wiping the drive and rebuilding and finding that the problem persists, try a different keyboard anyways, even if you think that shouldn't be the problem...

(keyboard problems don't necessarily present themselves the way you think they do - a short circuit can behave in very unpredictable ways)
