I hope this is not too off topic, but I see parental
control software
related to the chances of an infection from all the bad
stuff this ng
discusses.
So my question.
I have read and posted here for some time and know NOD32
and other
programs are great AV solutions, but are there some
suggestions
regarding content filtering that are best-of-breed, too?
A friend
wishes to keep pornography sites (and these kinds of
sites relations
to malware) off limits and hope to control other
offensive content,
as well.
What solutions for these kinds of parental control (and
maybe
monitoring) software are good choices?
If there is a more appropriate ng, please direct me and
apologies if
this is not normal for this ng.
Thanks,
PB
Some ideas for your friend:
Although the marketers push and push and push internet
connections and have
everyone convinced its a "necessity" etc. etc. etc. if I
had kids, they
would not be "online". I would want to bring them up as
well as I could.
Exposing them to the many perversions [and to the outright
danger from
predators] that an Internet connection would bring into
the house is not my
idea of good parenting.
You may not believe this next statement but guess what? If
you have no
internet connection the kids will not die.Oh, they may
scream and holler for
a while and sound as if they are going to die, but they
actually will not.
And you will know you have done right by them.
If you need to surf for your job, do it at work, or at a
library or at an
Internet cafe, or from somewhere the kids can't get
exposed to the horrible
and even vicious crap that's out there.
When they are older and more able to weigh ideas rightly
and handle things
and know what's up, well, then they can get connected. But
while under your
care there's no need for them to be online at all - none.
groups that depend apon the internet. Horror, shock, this is
why it should ....
We live in a rural area, 500 kids from all around the region
go to the area high school, 50 to our local primary area
school, 50 to each of the 2 surrounding primary area
schools. How would disconnecting internet access so that
they never get to speak to friends outside of school benefit
them?
As they do not have access to research facilities such as a
local library, how would disconnecting the internet enhance
their education?
It didn't kill us not having internet access as we grow up,
but you're not growing up anymore (I assume), the kids of
today are & guess what. Social values have changed since
your Mum & Dad called the shots.
