unable to open websites in browser(s)

hi.

i am unable to view most webpages - have tried with Firefox, Opera 8
and IE.

i AM able to ping most of them and they are not timing out.

this is an old win98 system.

any viruses that cause such selective blocking ?

switched off the firewall to see if that was the issue (BlackIce).

have run a winsock reinstall but i hardly think thats the problem cos
im able to see some websites .....

could this somehow be an ISP issue?
