Re: Please Help

From: "Fan" <Fan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

| I have a desktop computer and I know for a fact that it is infected. The fan
| is working like creazy no virus detecting software was able fix it. I am
| currently using Norton's latest version and it shows clean. I have downloaded
| a free software called AVG it just found a virus called FRIDAY and deleted
| the file however my computer is extremely slow and annoying. I have ony one
| week ago purchased a brand new laptop and I have started having the same
| problems with the new laptop after using my USB flash in both computers. What
| do you think is slowing my computer down and killing my fan. The task manager
| shows everything normal. Please help
| Thank you

There are two infectors listed act Grisoft; Friday_13th and WM/Friday

Which was it ?

However neither will make the fan work like crazy. In fact, there are no viruses that
exhibit such behaviour.

The Friday 13th is a very old virus that goes bact to like 1987. It is a DOS .COM file
infector and is similar to the Jerusalem family in that on Fridays that fall on the 13th of
the month the payload is executed and infected files are deleted.

The WM/Friday (there are a few variants) is a Word Macro Virus that can infect Word 6 and
Word 7 documents in both Windows and Macintiosh and on Fridays that fall on the 13th of the
month the payload is executed where on DOS/Windows platforms the OS boot file IO.SYS is
renamed.

Both are "OLD" infectors.

What is your operating system ?

Please use the following tool to scan your computer. Use the McAfee module and at the end
of the scan it will ceate a log file;
C:\AV-CLS\McAfee\ScanReport.HTML I want you to cvopy and paste the contents of teh log file
into your reply.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm
