The other night, while I was chatting on MSN Messenger, I had a conversation
window pop up from a friend. The conversation states something along the
lines of:
Wow, is this really you?
There was a link and, in my stupidity, I clicked on the link. A program
loaded to my computer and now, I am unable to log into MSN Messenger, or
retrieve my Hotmail account via the Hotmail website. It also appears that
this program shut off my virus scanner (I have Norton), and will not allow
me to conduct a system scan. I tried to download AVG from their website (it
was recommended by a guy from work), and I cannot get onto the website. All
I receive when I do try is something about the page being unavailable.
A friend told me to check the processes my computer is running and, to look
for SVCHOST.EXE, which I have 5 occurences of this particular file running
on my computer. I tried to shut down one of these processes, and my
computer gave me 55 seconds to save all unsaved work and proceeded to shut
my computer down.
Any suggestions on how I can get this virus off my computer?
