    You haven't given us some important information, like what operating
    system you are running. If XP, what Service Pack level? If you have XP
    and are getting popups not in your browser, then you need to upgrade to
    Service Pack 2. Do not apply Service Pack 2 until you know your
    computer is completely virus/malware free and until you've examined the
    links I'll give you at the end of this post about preparing for SP2. In
    the meantime:

    1. On Win2k/XP, disable the Messenger service unless you are in a
    corporate environment and need to use netsend.
    Start>Run>services.msc [enter]
    Scroll down to the Messenger service (this has nothing to do with
    instant messaging), stop it and set it to "Disabled".

    2. The #1 above is just a stop-gap measure; if you are getting Messenger
    spam popups, this means you don't have a firewall in place. No Windows
    machine should be on the Internet without a firewall.

    3. Go through the following malware removal steps systematically, doing
    everything with updated tools in Safe Mode:
