Do the scanners say they find anything?
If so, do they claim to have fixed it?
If so, then does a repeat scan 5 min later find the same thing again?

Well, that's what would worry me - that some process it emulating
keyboard or mouse to the point that the screensaver wakes up.

Does this behavior stop if you unplug the broadband?

Are you on any sort of wireless, infrared, bluetooth stuff?

That isn't reassuring either...

Do a formal virus check. I know, that's an easy glib thing to say,
like "just make backups", and as difficult to do effectively. It's a
big blind spot in NTFS-era Windows, where we are supposed to trust
malware to lie still and allow an av scanner to find and kill them
from within the infected Windows installation.

"I'm planning to live forever - so far, so good..."

If on FATxx, see:

http://cquirke.mvps.org/9x/virtest.htm

If on NTFS, see...

http://cquirke.mvps.org/whatmos.htm

...and then catch up on how to build your own maintenance OS (seeing
as MS are too clueless or bloody-minded to provide you with one) here:

http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?s=2d8129076720e6e30cc2031100d2b258&showforum=30

It should be easier than this, but it isn't.

Running Windows-based av to kill active malware is like striking
a match to see if what you are standing in is water or petrol.
