Thanks for the quick reply. You are correct in your assessment - two real
time scanners, virus or spyware, can be problematic. However, we ran Spybot
S&D's Teatimer and MS Antispyware side by side with no real problems, except
for having to respond to two sets of recommendations everytime you ran a
script.

The problem is Microsoft Antispyware is not an antivirus solution and, while
McAfee handles both viruses and spyware, its antispyware capabilities are not
on a par with Microsoft Antispyware. We would like to run McAfee for its
antivirus protection while allowing Microsoft Antispyware to scan for
spyware. The trick is figuring out what to turn off in McAfee to allow
Microsoft's real-time protection to function, and only turning off just
enough so that we can get the best of both products.

Interesting you should mention running Spybot and Ad-Aware together. On
those occasions when both have requested permission to scan after a reboot,
they have never actually run simultaneously. One will run after the other. In
the single instance where I manually ran both at the same time, the only
effect was that they both ran slower. On a slower machine, you could have a
resource problem, but its not unlike downloading multiple files at the same
time.

Thanks for your input. I would have gone to McAfee, but of course they
wouldn't really see this as much of a problem, and their knowledgebase is mum
on the issue.
