It serves no purpose as you'd be scanning any attachments or files before
you opened them regardless assuming you've set AVG to scan in real time mode
(basically, is it running in the notification area of the task bar?? If so
you're all set.) and have the email scanning enabled you might not suffer
any problems but you're risking program stability and other issues by doing
so. Some people and some applications manage to pull it off without a
problem but often there's odd problems created by it and if the AV program
is set to scan automatically then there's no need for the additional
scanning.
