| I think I have a similar problem but am using McAfee Internet Security Suite,
| which has been disabled. The suggestion to use TrendMicro to clean the virus
| sounded good but I cannot get to the Start Menu, System Tray, Control Panel
| or My Computer to do anything. The Task Manager shows "qvchost.exe" running
| as a NETWORK SERVICE at 99% & the CPU is at 100% utilization. Rebooting in
| SAFE mode still does not get me to the Start Menu or System Tray, etc. I can
| reboot in SAFE mode with the Command Prompt but navigating around a Windows
| XP box in a Command Shell is pretty difficult. Any suggestions? Help!!!

Please read the following..
How to perform a clean boot in Windows XP -- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

If it is running as a service, shutdown the service via MSCONFIG.EXE, SERVICES.MSC or "net
stop <service name>"

Then run all scanners in safe mode.
