Hi Malke:
I wanted to let you know that I have created a Front-End to the TrendMicro Sysclean utility.
Distributed in a Self-Extracting ZIP file, it is based upon the Kixtart scripting language.
The Sysclean Front End utility (Sysclean_FE) automates the process installing and keeping
up-to-date the SYSCLEAN.COM utility and the associated Pattern File. Upon downloading the
needed files the user is provided a menu. From here the user can reboot the platform to
scan in Safe Mode, exit the utility or run SYSCLEAN.COM.
The Front-End is either launched from a LNK or a BAT file. The utility has the advantage
that it will repair corrupted AUTOEXEC.NT and CONFIG.NT files (launched from Sysclean
Link.lnk), it will make sure the TCP/IP static tables (hosts, lmhosts, services, etc.) are
in the correct location and if they aren't the utility will fix the Registry and it will
then make sure the hosts file hasn't been modified to block access to the TrendMicro
website. A PDF help file is included. Since the Sysclean Front End utility is written in
an interpreted scripting language, it can easily be modified for new threats as needed.
Ian Kenefick is hosting the Sysclean Front End utility (Sysclean_FE) at his web site at the
following location...
"Procedure 1" in the URL http://www.ik-cs.com/got-a-virus.htm
or
Direct URL: http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Sysclean_FE.exe
You should also try out another Front-End utility for a different Command Line Scanner.
"Procedure 2 in the URL http://www.ik-cs.com/got-a-virus.htm
Let Ian and myself know you think and please provide us feedback for both the web site and
the utilities.
