Thanks for the tip. When I googled for disk checkers, I was surprised by how
few where out there. Data LifeGuard reports my disk passed both the quick
and extended tests.
I'm not really surprised by this. My feel for the problem is that something
wakes up that is very incompatible with virus scans.
I wish that I had tried scanning prior to visiting
windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Lesson learned. When I look at my update
history, it only shows updating their little malware tool. I wasn't paying
close attention, but I swear there was more then one patch.
Now that hardware doesn't appear to be the issue, any ideas on
troubleshooting this? I have already run through the suggestions from
Symantec's knowledge base.
Do you know of a tool that will log process initiation? Since this is a
hang, it would need to do immediate writes in order to survive my power
cycles.
